I started my own business when my son was a month old. I would wait until at least then to start your biz because you are going to be SORE! Not to mention tired. It took me two weeks to start feeling normal again, but I did have a lot of help from my husband.
Even with occasional help, I usually do everything myself including:
-making the product
-packing
-shipping
-customer service
-bookkeeping
-advertising
-website creation
-website uploading
-photographing new products
...you get the idea
I do all of this myself with a business I started from scratch. The real question is if you are willing to sacrifice your personal time and time with your family for something that will just make you money. For this to work in the long run, you have to have a passion for what you are doing. Don't go into debt for anything less that your dreams, 'cause it will turn into a nightmare for sure!
Good Luck to you and your little one!

I needed to answer this question; we have a two month old and a five year old at home and I am in the process of a start up myself. Best advice is that it is difficult, and there are so many variable to account for.
Our two month old is coliky, so there is a higher demand for attention and the crying, second my wife is coping extremely well, however that is a factor too for a new mom like you aka "Baby Blues".
On the upside, if you have a strong support network and partner, then the ability to work around the babies schedule is essential.
Many different factors, do a flow chart of Pros Cons and try to plan for as many different varibales that you can think of. And trust me, between family and work, you will get used to sleeping 3-5 hours a night.

I'd get started - because if you don't go you never know.
At least if you are home - you work around the new baby. I found when I had our first born things were harder then imagined but if you are up and going when the baby comes - whose to say it won't be one of those really adaptable babies?
I'd do it - sleep is hard and being able to work around my 3 kids at home with a business is often "tough" but I do it around them, that's the point.
Good Luck with everything.

Certainly. I have someone that works for me that has a 12 year old, 3.5 year old, and twin 2 year olds and says home with them all. Of course the 12 year old goes to school during the day. She does fine.

It's possible. But you'll be busier than you can imagine.
My daughter has 18 month old twins, and has run her own business from home for a number of years. Sometimes she doesn't get a lot of sleep, though. ;-{

well it's gonna be rough, but not impossible. Are you a highly organised person who has a high stress/pain tolerance level? What does the daddy think of this? does he work full-time, is he willing to take any time off to help?
