I mean say there was some sort of freak plate tektonic shift and there was a giant tract of land that just appeared. When people moved there what type of government would they set up?

What would life be the ideal life for the people who lived there?

The ideal life would depend on whatever new resources there were. A giant tract of land just appears... There wouldn't be a scrap of vegetation would there?

Well consider the moon. The countries we have now would be the ones setting up outposts up there, so they would be just noncontigous states. Same problems, same allies, same enemies, same taxes. I really don't think that nationless people would all just merge and form a government without other governments having a say.

It would wind up no matter what one of two ways.
A government of the people.
OR
A government over the people.

That's the way it works and no matter how hard we wish and I do it too the world is the way it is.

I like your question maybe if we all wish together it will come true. Only in our dreams, to bad...

I say start over at an earlier point in time. Like that first human ancestor who came out of the tree - maybe if it had broken its neck and died, and humans never evolved, the world would have been a much better place.

Just a thought.

Any useful new land would doubtless be claimed by several different nations, leading competing colonies and endless low-grade warfare.
