Actually, there are not any alternatives to not getting viruses in limewire. i had it, downloaded multimedia files, and ended up with a virus, twice. I finally got centiment and uninstalled it from my computer. But if you find you really have to use it, then my advice to you is: keep away from executable (.exe) files. they are the leading means of spreading viruses in limewire. However, as seemingly innocent as it may appear, the music is not all that safe to download either, because thats how i got my virus. Images i would say are the least harmful of them all. subconciously, if you then persist into downloading multimedia off limewire, then i would if presently in your case use a very reputable antivirus like, Norton or Mcafee. Set it to scan peer to peer and if any virus that is recognizable to their difinitions are found, then they will take care of it. Also have an anispyware installed on your computer. Norton internet security comes with one integrated. Have windows firefall turn on and scan your computer after every download. Also, turning off system restore may help, as 75 percent of all virus tend to retore themselves off system restore. If you try all of this in addition of having windows updates turn to automatic, then you stand a good chance of not getting a virus when using limewire.

oddly enough I've never gotten one from limewire, but in general, if the file has a virus you can't stop from getting it unless you just dont use the file that it is attached to.

Only download music...if you download executable files, zip files, iso files, even video files (wmv), you run the risk of getting a virus or spyware.
