A love for a child should absolutely be unconditional!!
Everytime i hear the stories of disowned kids etc for such a trivial reason it makes me angry. I want to hunt the parents down and knock some sense into that mush they are calling their brain. So arrogant, blind, selfish, ignorant and scared *shakes head sadly*

These parents have been hyper-socialized. They have far too strongly bought into the idea that there is an acceptable and an unacceptable way to be human, without regard to the harm enforcing such ideas may cause.
In a diverse world hyper-socialization only breeds violence and suffering. And this has always been a diverse world. We can either fight wars over differences or we can learn to live with them.

My guess is that type of parent is against homosexuality in the first place. They also have probably thought that it would NEVER come to their families cause they have raised their kids "right" So when one of their kid turns out to be gay they can't or wont accept it.

People are week. Some just worry about what others will think, and some feel that it is a sin to be gay. But giving up on their children isn't what is called for in a religious context. We are all flawed and some of us think on to much of what others would have us do. Above all you have to do what is right for you. You need to except and forgive what people are going to feel and think , if your going to stay sain in this world. Happiness lies with in yourself. FINED IT!

The term "brainwashed" comes to mind. Too bad they couldn't overcome their rigidly false beliefs even for the sake of their own flesh and blood... and it's the children who will suffer the most. :(

You answered your own question....sort of.
It's not so much that they are sick, but rather ignorant and closed minded...as well as cold hearted (if they possess one at all.)

Please.... Do you think parents should love their kids unconditionally? Support him/her if they abuse alcohol or drugs? Love them even though they beat their spouse? Sorry, love isn't given away unconditionally/ Love and respect are earned.
If a child chooses to behave in a way parents don't accept, in a way that they know are destructive to their child in the long term, they have every right to cut the child off until they behave like a responsible adult.
Parents shouldn't be forced to enable their kids improper actions.
Kids should respect their parents view points and act in a way to honor their parents. Kids who believe "If it feels good, do it" should know better than to blame their parents.
