why doesn't hat concept apply to gun control?

It should apply to gun control because you may one day need a gun to protect yourself from a government trying to take away your other rights. I do not think it applies, however, to things like tapping phone lines and reading emails. I do not have a constitutional right to make private phone calls but I do have a right to own a gun.

The idea is to have gun control that doesn't give up any security. For example, the banning of "cop killer" bullets. Those have no bearing as to one's ability to achieve security, yet can offer significant danger to law enforcement. But I agree, that gun control that interferes with one's ability to achieve security is wrong.

I think that Franklin was saying just that: that all of our rights must be protected and preserved and if we give up those rights we did not deserve them in the first place, for we mark ourselves not as free people but as the servants of fear and the mob mentality.

Ben Franklin once said that. I probably have to say yeah. You can't give up your freedom for security. Otherwise, you really don't have neither.

Because we are guaranteed the right to bear arms. (2ND Amendment) I wouldn't want any communist liberal taking that right away from me, while they are guaranteed protection and security forces.
