It's a lot of fun, and on a hot day, it's a great way to stay cool. We used to tie a cooler into an inner tube, and fill it with drinks. But be sure that you put a rope on this, or you may lose everything if it floats away from you!

Two things to remember - first, use sunscreen if you think there's the remotest chance of getting burned. I tube in Michigan, and doing this in the south would fry my pasty white skin lobster red before I was a mile down the river.

Second, if you take alcoholic drinks with you, go slow on how much you drink, and wear a life vest of some sort. Drinking like this on a tubing trip will increase your odds of drowning if there was any accident, and there's no need to make your boyfriend's family trip a real bummer for them - or for you, too.

Third - make sure you do something responsible with the empties when you're done, like put them back in the cooler. Glass in the water is guaranteed to get stepped on and cut someone's foot. Cans in the water are ugly trash. Ditto with the empty sunscreen bottle.

Fourth - DON'T PUT YOUR CAR KEYS IN YOUR POCKET, AND EXPECT THEM TO BE THERE WHEN YOU ARE DONE. I did this with a friend's keys, and they're somewhere on the bottom of a 5 mile stretch of river. Her boyfriend had to drive almost 200 miles one way to bring up a spare set. Yeah, he was happy with me... Get a spare key made, and pin one set into your pocket, and give the other to someone else in your group.

Well I have floated the Guadelupe several times. It is a great experience and when the water is low there are few rapids. The rapids that are there aren't too bad either. Plus the water is pretty shallow and clear. I would say go and have a great time. Another plus is that there will be loads of people having a great time so if you get in trouble someone will help you out.
Good Luck!

It is fun. All that you have to remember is to keep your legs up if you fall off so that they don't get taken off. You should definitely do it though.
