Why is the sky light blue in the day and dark blue in the night? Why is the sky blue in the first place? I wonder.

The sky is blue for the following reason:

Blue light has a higher frequency than red light, and the higher the frequency of the light, the more it is dispersed by the air.

Let's say the Sun is directly overhead. All the light from the Sun hits the Earth in essentially the same direction. The red light from the Sun tends to stay going in a straight line. If we look into the sky, we only see red light coming from directly above us. However, the blue light does not stay going in a straight line. It goes all over the place. Some of the light that would fall on the atmosphere NEXT to us (not hitting our eyes at all) is dispersed sideways, so it hits our eyes from a sideways angle. Thus we see blue light hitting our eyes from all directions, but red light hitting our eyes only from directly above (where the Sun is).

If you look at photos taken on the moon, you will see what having no atmosphere does. Even in daytime, the sky is jet black.
