Hi, anyone witha good mind & deep knowledge of buying 2nd used laptops worth it for college studies, I will be studying 'Quark', or is it better to buy a 'brand' new one?
Errr....can a used laptop add more features like XP windows, and publishers n' stuff?

I have been hemming and hawing over this for a while. Perhaps guide me in the right direction, with thanks!

Make sure that the laptop will handle the new program. By this I mean make sure that the laptop specs will handle both WinXP and Quark. If it will, then you'd be good to consider it.

Also consider how much the laptop was used, both on battery and on ac power. Batteries degrade over time if not properly kept up and can then go dead when you least expect it. Turn the system on and check out the features. Make sure they ALL work, don't take the owner's word for it. Check the modem even if you are planning on using the LAN or wireless connection. Check out the wireless even if you know you won't need it right away. Be sure that what you are paying for works and works well.

AFter you're done checking, check out hte amount of heat that the laptop is putting out. Also check out how the owner cared for it. Did they shove it in the bottom of their backpack or carry it in a padded case?

I'm sure you can think of other things to ask the owner.
