Ratcoons have been coming into my barn to kill and eat my baby rabbits for the past two days. In the process, they flipped my other rabbits cages completly over, killed my rabbits, tramatized my male rabbit, and bit holes into my water bottles. I've never had this problem before, and I've had rabbits for 4-5 years. I've went from 11 rabbits to 5. They've also ended up killing my fawn by breaking his neak, and killing my best cat. What should I do? How would I get rid of them. My cats are all scared to leave the garage now. I don't have any dogs to watch the barn or anything. What should I do???! HELP ME BEFORE IT GETS WORSE! ! ! ! Thanks!

get live traps and bait with tuna fish, live traps come from the aspca, option 2, (my grandfather's method) get a shotgun, lie up in the loft of the barn with a bottle of booze, and nail the skins of the dead coons up around the barn, also hanging a dead crow from a tree keeps crows out of the yard. before i get a bunch of nasty comments and thumbs pointing in the general direction of the anatomical feature that they should be placed in i would like to add that IF AN ANIMAL KILLS LIVESTOCK IT IS A PEST AND IT IS LEGAL IN MY STATE TO KILL IT!, now if you had a black snake... different story.
PS, it is the rabbits, 'Coons are omnivores, if you feed them, they will keep coming back, and if you use the traps, the others will see (they are WAY smart) and you're back to square 1. Don't waste them though, at least put them in the compost pile, or till them under, hair is a good slow feeding source of nitrates for growing plants. Also i have seen raccoons kill dogs, they are tough, and if you get a Rottweiler or pitbull, your rabbits may fare worse. but a queensland or german shepherd usually will bark and let you know something is up. (the second half of the second amendment applies here) The Coke in a bowl idea, is a bunch of dookie. BUT antifreeze works sometimes, but not as effectively and Mr Browning, or my friends Mr Smith, and Mr Wesson, You cant use a simple sonic emmiter, like i would suggest for a household, because of the rabbits, it may even cause them heart attacks.

Get a haveaheart cage...(traps coons) put sardines in it and put it outside....if the behavior is repetative it is most likely one ratcoon that is doing this. he has learned where there is a big easy meals.

That is the only way that you will trap this animal...you could call animal control but it would be alot more expensive for them to do it.

Look the traps up online, and contact the company and explain your predictament to them, ask for qa rush delivery.

The traps are 60 bucks.. good luck

I've never known raccoons to be that aggressive. Are you sure its raccoons? Not possums or some other wild animal? Or even stray dogs?

Some wild animals (skunks and moles, for example) will avoid certain smells. We mix water, urine, sulfur, and dishwashing liquid; and then spray that around an area where we want to keep the animals out. Other animals will avoid the smell of moth balls. You could try putting one or both of these around your barn.

You could buy a cage trap, or borrow one from a nearby Humane Society or SPCA, so that you can capture the animals and then relocate them someplace else. Would suggest baiting the trap with sliced apple covered with peanut butter.

Hope these ideas might help you.

After a couple of nights getting shot with a pellet gun pumped up about 15 times, the raccoons stopped coming around my house.

"ITS NOT THE RABBITS"

Ratcoons are fighting for the food in the cage

move the cage inside and feed temporily the ratcoons with rabbit pellets..this will offset where the food is coming from..its comming from you and will offset the drive of ratcoons

get a can of coke ( coca cola ) and put it out and make sure it has LOTS of carbonation. put it in a dish. The raccoons will come to it b/c they like sugar then they drink it and the carbonation will kill them b/c they can't burp and their stomachs explode. It is true...I have a relative that does this and they find coons about fifty feet away from bowl dead. this WILL work trust me!!

I've heard that moth balls help, not sure though. You can find them in the housewares department of Walmart, close to the ironing boards.
