i'm 14 and just got my 1st period in march and i can't put tampons in w/o it hurting like crazy! the only way i can get it in is by coating it with like this vaseline stuff so it will glide in. is that stuff bad for your vigina? i cant do it any other way cuz it feels so dry and it gets stuck and it hurts soooo bad! is that just because nothings been up there before and it is tight? please help because that also means i can't change them in public places cuz i don't have that vaseline stuff with me... so i have to carefully plan when i use them and stuff......aaaaaaaaaah well thank you!

Try the slim tampons, in plastic (i think playtex has the slimfits in plastic). I think tampax only has slim tampons in the cardboard open ended style, which i personally can't stand (for the same reason-it hurts me to put it in).
I think the pearlescent tampons work good. But if you are already using plastic tampons, try holding your vagina open wider with your fingers of the hand not holding the tampon. hope this helps!

Vaseline is terrible for the vagina because it can grow bacteria. Just get some plastic tampons. I've had my period for years and cardboard tampons still hurt (if they're big).

1] buy a small or sample size tube of vaseline for your purse
2] everyone experiences some dryness or pain initially, especially if you haven't had sex.
3] as your body matures, your vagina will produce a discharge that varies with your menstrual cycle. This can be thin and clear to slightly thick [ like egg white ] and whitish.
As long as the discharge is not green/gray/yellow, or smelly, or itchy, you are normal.
This will make the tampons much easier to use.

The tampon shouldn't hurt at all, it should be comfortable enough that you cant feel it. It takes some practice to get the hang of inserting them the first couple times you use them. Are you putting it in far enough? You have to push the applicator in first, and then push the tampon out of the applicator. If you dont put in the applicator first, it will be very painful.

First of all, dont put vaseline up there... if you read the container it probably says not to. Second, maybe use a smaller tampon and Third, maybe you aren't putting it in far enough (it will hurt like crazy if part of it is still sticking out). Don't be scared.

You just need to practise!!
If you've only just started your periods, its often easier to start with pads as they are easier to use when this is all new to you, although i understand the need to use a tampon for convinience. But no its not supposed to hurt. It will only hurt because you are not relaxed about it going in. Try not to be tense about it, and you will find this helps. Get into a good postion to use them too as this helps. I struggled to use them at first, but trust me....it gets easier!!
Also, just be careful using tampons - make sure you are aware of TSS - Toxic shock symdrome. You can find info on this in the packet of tampons. Not trying to scare you - just make you aware.
Good luck!!

First of all, I would suggest that you check with your doctor, and tell them about your concern. I have some ideas of what the problem might be, but I think that you should talk to your Dr. first...they can suggest some things that might help.

vaseline is not good for your vagina.
tampons hurt lots of females. i never could wear them.
i just used kotex. not sure if it the way our vaults are positioned, but, it hurt and would not stay in. just use kotex, they are your best bet.
