A question I asked earlier http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiplmRe.oVd1Kd6o8CCVWVr07BR.?qid=20070619111705AAkvqRM suggested that gay people have no lack of rights compared with straight people. I disagree, but I'm curious what rights others find in their own jurisdictions are available to straight people that gay people cannot take advantage of.

I am a married straight male. If my wife becomes ill and is not longer able to make medical decisions for herself I become the person who makes those decisions. Of course I will adhere to the wishes she has expressed to me over the past 29 years. If we were a gay couple, I would not have that right. I would not have that right because gay marriages are not recognized by almost every state in theis country. Marriage is more than a blessing of a church or a legal ceremony in a courthouse. It carries a great deal of legal significance, including inheritance rights in many states and next of kin rights. Adoption in many states is also difficult for admittedly gay couples.

These are just a few very important rights that are denied our gay brothers and sisters. I strongly believe that if anyones rights are infringed upon then no ones rights are safe. Those who continue to campaign against gay rights do so at their own peril. Who knows? Perhaps they too, in time will become the enemy de'jour of those who believe themselves capable of defining morality in this country.

i'm not gay the two, yet I agree that gay marriage could be criminal. There are rules keeping apart church from state, top? nicely, maximum persons have not got faith gay marriage could be criminal because of the fact of their non secular ideals. that is null and void if there is separation from church and state. yet another excuse is with the aid of the fact they pay taxes like a number of different citizen interior of america, yet their freedom to do as they %, even even though it would not injury all and sundry, is being constrained. they are human beings, individuals, who've RIGHTS. i think of the bill of Rights could persist with to each American available in spite of sexual determination. it is u . s . a ., land of the unfastened, so why are not they unfastened to be waiting to marry as they prefer? Ford skill Stroke: it is likewise a sin to decide others.

Um, you have heard of marriage right, good then realize that the government doesn't allow homosexuals to marry even though they are guarenteed the pursuit of happiness under the Constitution, it doesn't say you "unless you are homosexual" also they are not guarenteed the right to walk down the street without fear of getting being assaulted do to their sexual orientation where as let's say an oriental, or african american person gets assaulted because of the color of their skin then the person(s) who did it get charged with a felony hate crime whereas homosexuals are still having to fight for the same right for justice. The Constitution also doesn't say that you have a right to justice under the law UNLESS you happen to be gay, it just says you have a right to justice.
I feel sorry for you because you don't seem to get it but that is the truth and I know myself because of it happened to a dear friend of mine.

None - We all have the same rights. Marriage for example, neither you nor I can marry someone of our same sex, we can both marry someone of the opposite sex, hence we are equal.

Many times people are treated differently, but this doesn't mean that we are treated unequal. A person who earns more pays a higher tax rate than someone who earns less, for example. The two people aren't treated the same, but they are treated equally as they are subject to the same rules regarding tax rates.

No one is preventing you from getting married just because you are gay.

Well Marriage for one.
The right to live a normal life without fearing someone is going to beat the crap out of them.
The right to visit their sick partner in the hospital without being told, oh I'm so sorry but you have to leave, only family allowed.
The right to be a parent without worry someone is going to try and take your kids away from you.

depending on where you live marital rights. My state( NJ allows for Civil UNions with most if not all of the the benefits). They also miss out in natural reproduction as a couple. If they want children they need to adopt or if its a lesbian couple, artificial insemination.
