Some are real friends others more like aquaintances......I have at least one that is definitely a real friendship. We have been in contact for over a year since meeting here. Others you think are real then they disappear for no reason so it depends how close the relationship is.....

I think there are several degrees of friendships, so by definition online ones are. Perhaps it's simply a matter of semantics. (Not to be confused with the Romantics, an 80's rock band.)

They can turn out to be.
I started talking to someone 9 years ago online, we became best friends and 8 years into the friendship we finally got to meet. =)
I was even maid of honour at her wedding.

They can be, yes. It all depends on the people and level of honesty. I consider some of my online friends to be real friends, others, not so much (but still a lot of fun).

They could be. But the friends you get to hang out with and let you cry on their shoulder are the truly real ones in my opinion.

i've met a lot of great people on YA. i have talked on the phone with 3 of them. a friend is a friend no matter where you meet them.

Oh yeah !!! Some of the best people I know are on-line !! They tend to be more honsest when you really need it what do they have to lose.
