In reality, being GLBT is no different than being straight. The difference in impact is due to the way we've structured our society. Someone who is GLBT is automatically at a disadvantage in a society that devalues and shuns them for who they are. On the other hand, someone who is straight (which has been defined as "normal") could go their whole lives without actively thinking about their sexuality, and that is a luxury that arises from their relative privilege, not because they are inherently more worthy.

In this way, "straight" things are "normal and good," while things associated with GLBT persons are "abnormal and wrong." The differences in judgment and value based on these levels obviously lead to GLBT persons being massively discriminated against. That's the root difference, and it's totally unnecessary and wrong.

Well I know people treat me a lot differently when they find out I am not straight.

And by differently I mean often in a negative way, such as being discriminated against and being looked down up on.

Legal recognition of a committed partnership to an opposite gender couple has little to NO impact simply because it's commonplace and socially accepted.

Legal recognition of a committed partnership of a same-sex couple is Federally DENIED as well as denied in the majority of individual states!

You are accepted and can have Public Displays of Affections if you are straight

You pretty much have to keep under the radar and some people have been killed for being LGBT

Last time I checked, straight people weren't beaten, killed and discriminated against just for being whom they were chosen to be by God . . . .
