No it cannot. A 1.44 floppy diskette holds data magnetically like a Hard Drive. A CD's data is imprinted into it much like a record so it never fades. A magnetic storage device cannot hold data forever it will eventually lose the data. Good Luck HTH.

1.44 disks aren't very strong (I don't know how to say it in English). Here's a list what can damage them:
phones
speakers, earphones (headphones)
magnets
some screwdrivers
TVs
microwave
wireless, Bluetooth
sun
dust, sand
two year old with peanut butter sandwiches (like dewcoons said above) :D
So those disks can't hold data forever. Even if they could, they're very slow and small capacity, so you probably won't find a floppy disk drive in new computers after ~5 years.

Floppy disk are prone to magnetic interference. They can also degrade over long periods of time as the disk loses its magnetic writing. Optical disks hold data for much longer but are prone to scratching. If you need to back up something for a long time burning it to cd or dvd and keeping it in a safe case is a good idea.

Floppy disk have a short lifespan. They are easily damaged by static electricity, dust, heat, and two year old with peanut butter sandwiches (from experience).
If you are looking to do long term storage, CDs are much more reliable, can be washed if they get dirty, and are not as easily damaged.
I can tell you from experince that the average lifetime for a floppy is about 5 minutes shorter then the next time you will need to access it.

It will hold the data until either it is deleted or the disk goes bad. Floppy disks are really not very reliable, but the data stays on them as long as you want.

I am with the consesus. Floppy's as well as Flash drives should not be trusted for long term storage. Any type of Magnetic Pulse, current can affect the DATA

No it can't and No it won't
Floppy is unlikely to work if data has sat even as much as a year or so. SOME might work longer, but not all.
Floppy is the worst media for losing data
