The National Auto Museum in Reno is really outstanding http://www.automuseum.org/ even if you are not normally a "car" person.

You could go to Squaw Valley on the northwest corner of the lake or Heavenly Gondola in South Lake Tahoe for awesome views without the hiking part. I just did the Heavenly Gondola and it was expensive but what a view.

Go to Vikingsholm in connection with a lake cruise; I think the boats leave from Zepher Cove.

I find Reno itself to be pretty boring; hopefully you'll keep yourself occupied in their casinos. In So Lake Tahoe, Harvey's Casino and hotel has an outdoor music stage that is surrounded by pine trees and the lake and I've seen some top acts there (unfortunately at top dollar)...for list of acts, see website http://www.harrahs.com/casinos/harveys-lake-tahoe/casino-misc/harveys-outdoor-arena-detail.html

Take the Tahoe Queen out on the lake, and check out Emerald Bay.
Get online and see what shows (theater) are playing at Harrah's, Blue Lake (used to be Caesar's), or Harvey's. There's a club, if you're into that thing, called Nero's located in Blue Lake.
There's a visitor's office located down the street from a Denny's and Raley's supermarket (you'll be driving towards the lake), across from some small shops and an ice cream/burger shack, they should be able to give you a few tips about the area.
You should check out the Donnor Party trail, it's a little drive from Tahoe, but it's cool to check it out.
Take a tram up to the top of one of the mountains, I believe you catch one at Harrah's and there's a restaurant and beautiful view of the lake from up there.
Ask the attendant at your hotel what they recommend doing in the area also, there may be festivals or shows going on that only the locals know about....
Have Fun!!!

I just got back. Lake Tahoe has to be the most beautiful place on Earth. There is a 72 mile loop drive round the Lake.
I recommend it.

Amazing it stays so clear and Blue.
