I see this question has been asked a few times, but I am still not sure. I just read an article where someone who was 45 went back to junior college (because they couldnt afford a university) and after two years with a degree in CAD(?), is now making 100k? Is that possible? Is there any other high paying 2 year learning program type jobs anyone could suggest? Thanks.

That's quite possible.... but I recall, the example you mentioned was in California. With such a high living expenses, 100k won't go very far. In other areas, comparable job will pay considerably less.

I can tell you this much....

Looking for a degree based on high earning potential won't get you very far. The truth is, in any field, with enough effort on your own, you can reach quite a high earning level. Having a two year degree will help, but it is not a substitute for your own effort.

In addition, remember, you are looking for a job you will be doing day in - day out. Don't look for a job solely on earning. You are not going to excel at it, if you don't find it interesting.

What the article didn't say was how long the individual has been in that position. More likely, he/she has been in that position for many years and paid his/her dues. Many times, proving that you can do the job and you know what you are talking about does more than a degree. It takes YEARS to accomplish this.

This is based on my own experience.

It all depends on what jobs are available in your are and the geographic location. I suppose it would be possible for someone with a two year degree to pull in 100k, but those cases are probably in the minority. Health careers are always in demand, but to gain admittance to most you need to have top grades. Health professionals can rake in quite a bit by doing travel work also.

Computer programming, business, and engineering techology also may offer decent salaries. You should contact the CC you wish to attend and ask if they have employment/salary statistics for graduates.
