I was lucky enough to study in Spain a few years back, and ever since I left Europe, I have been longing to return. I want to go back for a few weeks after xmas, and was thinking about spending New Years in Paris, then go off to Portugal, and Spain. Would this be a good idea? I am flying from Boston, and was hoping to get a round-trip flight for about $500 or less. Thanks

Its kind of funny, I spend New Years 2000 in Las Vegas, and my friends and I spent the New Years countdown in front of The Paris Hotel.

From past experience, this is the cheapest time to go to Europe. I got a round trip ticket a few years back for $450, so please refrain from any negative, bitter comments which make no sense. Thanks

I spent last New Years Eve in Paris. I was deciding between Paris and Berlin to pull an all-nghter, and I chose Paris, found a great, reasonable hotel near Metro stop Rambuteau, and went to a club, where when i first walked in, someone gave me a ticket for a free champagne at midnight, as he was already leaving. Paris has always been magical to me, and really more friendly than I had heard. Only one person got impatient with me the whole stay.
From Paris, on Jan 2, I took a night train to Spain and visited San Sebastian, Madrid and Corboda. It was great, nice weather for travel, fun, beautiful, great food, Spain's cheaper than France. I flew home from Madrid. (I had flown into Amsterdam) This mix of cities turned out cheaper than a roundtrip to either place! I think it was $600 from Miami.
I LOVE Portugal !! I didn't go this year but went in 1986 and again in 1990. Lisboa is very picturesque and Portugal is relaxed and pretty friendly. I got really cheap flights before by flying on Christmas day and returning midweek in January.
Paris tends to be more $ to fly to than Amsterdam or London, but then there's a train ride to get to Paris.

well i hope you do find a round trip ticket for 500 bucks but you never know.i served during vietnam and we were ordered to keep our mouths shut and avoid anyone who may cause trouble.just to keep anything that might cause the media to make up a story.i know that many people have flown to the mideast without any problems as well as other countries but when you think all is well something may crop up and cause trouble on your flight.with terrorist activity and groups of people just waiting to start a small war i would think it would be best to stay home.life is uncertain today just as walking out your own front door.however when you go to buy groceries you take your life into your own hands.its really up to you.you have to decide for yourself.
