I just wish they could play outside the way we use to. I just read in the paper that a nine yr old boy was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Kids need activity and that doesn't mean a game boy or a computer.

I'm only 14 and I think its sad. Mostly all of the kids my age swear and do bad stuff all the time. I personally wish it was in the olden days, because I always hear my parents saying this is never how it used to be. Also all of the shows on TV now days somehow involve Sex, and swear all the time. I know back then they would never show these things on TV. Also the internet has brought a bunch of bad things, like porn. It's really horrible how some of the kids my age act these days.

What's to be sad about? Other than greater access to information no a whole heck of a lot has changed.
I really wish I had the full quote handy, but I remember reading a passage from an older man lamenting how the children of today have no respect for their elders, enjoy loud music, and are generally a bunch of thugs. It turns out the quote was from a man living in ancient Greece!
The more things change, the more they remain the same...

Dont put all the blame on the kids! What about the parents, government, and technology? Put some of the blame on the parents. Government is not real helping and we have a "lame duck" in the office for the next two years.
You can do something about it.
Instead of letting you kids watch t.v. teach him/her numbers, make them read or try to get them help. Take you children to the park once in a while. Go to PTA meetings once in a while. Don't buy them a cell phone or ps2 etc... if he or she is behaving bad. Trust your children until they prove otherwise.

Some kids give me hope for a brighter the future of humanity, others not so much.
The olden days were less complicated but we have a lot more knowledge now.

I have taught school for 32 years and I can't tell much difference in the kids at all. What I do notice is a difference in parents. far too many of today's parents are afraid to discipline their children. I don't mean spanking - just being afraid to take a stand and to demand respect. You know it is not the children's fault when I , as their teacher, am able to gain their respect and get them to follow my instructions 95% of the time, Yet, when they are around their parents I hear things like them telling their mother to shut up. The parent will just look at me and laughingly say "I just don't know what to do with him." Parents have to get away from the need to please their children and to be their friend. Until this happens - kids will do what comes normal to them which is to always test boundaries and limits.

Did you know that was a prophecy in the Bible?
The Last Days would be full of people as you described...
Read on:
1 Timothy 3:1 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away

For the most part, they are stupid, spoiled little punks, and their parents are to blame for their crappy parenting. Kids don't need all of these expensive gadgets. They need to go outside, open a book, get a good a*ss whooping, or all of the above.
One time my son told me to shut up, and I smacked him right off the chair. He never said it to me again. Whenever we went out and the kids would act up, I would pick up and just go home with them. I didn't care if we were in the middle of shopping or waiting for food to be served. They got one warning, and if they didn't stop, we left. Now they are very polite and well behaved.
I am not for child beating, mind you. I *am* big on manners and discipline, which a lot of kids seem to lack these days.

There seems to be two trends which really concern me.
1. Children aren't being taught any manners - their parents cater to their every whim and are not taught to wait their turn or even to say "Please" and "Thank you".
2. Children are encouraged to dress and act like they are adults. Little girls wear skimpy, sexy clothing and little boys are taught that the younger they are when they lose their virginity the better.
I can't help but wonder what will be the consequences of this "ME" generation.
