I wanted to know which graphics card is better. E-vga GeForce 8600 GTS 256 MB DDR3 ---or--- ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256 MB DDR3. They both have dual DVI but the 8600 GTS has Direct X 10.

Thanks!!

The X1950 Pro is a better performer but doesnt overclock well, if that matters to you. Currently, DX10 suport isn't really a big deal since no games have implemented it yet. That will certainly be different a year from now, so if you want to sacrifice a little speed to be ready for future games, go with the 8600 GTS. If you want the best performance at that price point right now, get the X1950 Pro.

I recommend spending maybe $30 more and moving up to the Radeon X1950XT- that card can't be beat for around $200. To do better, you'd be looking at the 320mb GeForce 8800 GTS, which is over your price range.

On that note, ATI's Radeon 2900 cards are currently slightly overpriced- that's not unusual for newly introduced cards. I'd wait for a month or so for the prices to come down, if you want one. They do support DX10 and performance is dead-even with the 640mb GeForce 8800 GTS.
