I met agirl at college from Scandinavia who`s name was spelt something like this. "Aose Holle" and it was pronounced exactly how you think. She changed her name to be known as Lin at college.

It's actually a very simple name, it sounds and is spelt exactly as it looks but EVERYONE gets it wrong. I've had to spell it immediately after saying it since I was five.
It's Stokell .... Stoke with two 'L's on the end. How hard is that but for some reason people most often put a 'c' in it and it becomes Stockell (gggggrrrrrr).
I hate the name Stokoe because people decide that Stokell doesn't exist and I must mean Stokoe. No, if I mean't Stokoe, I'd say Stokoe. I've even been told to check with my husband how his name is spelt as Stokell doesn't exist.
I get inappropriately grateful on the rare occasion when people get it right.

Yeah, it sounds a lot like a derogatory adjective. But no one has made fun of it since 4th grade.
It's kind of unusual. It's more common as a first name than a surname.

Yeah, mine is Fidance. It was something Italian and made to look more "American" in the 1800's when my family came over from Italy. Now, it just looks too much like finance. Also, it's pronounced with a long i (as in five) but people always pronounce it like "fee-dance" or "Fee-danc-eh" and ask if it's French or something. It's SO annoying!!!!

Hanna (no typo- thats how my surname is spelt)
rhymes with hammer and spanner
I also have an unusual first name so people call me Hanna thinking that my first name is my surname and vice versa.
Also get people who repeatedly say "whats your last name?" "no your surname..." "your last name is..." "are you sure?..." course im sure!!!

My maiden last name is one of these Polish last names that are long, impossible to pronounce, and end with "ski." My married last name is when translated into English means "whip." Describes my character perfectly, hahaha.
