A one-piece is appropriate for lessons. It is more secure and less likely to be pulled or adjusted during class. I never let my instructors wear a two-piece. That being said, look for something comfortable that you can move in; a basic tank suit is great for teaching as are racing suits because they hold up to extensive wear. If you need a suit with more support up top check out Land's End, they do chest-sized swimsuits. Also, they can suggest suits according to your body shape which is always helpful!

Speedo makes suits that are full coverage, but will stay in place for swim lessons and diving into a pool and so-forth. I would suggest just getting some board shorts to wear over the suit. You can swim in them, they don't weigh that much when they are on, and when you swim laps they add some drag for an extra training bonus!
