No, the statue is "Liberty Enlightening the World" and is an allegorical figure. That is, the statue is of a female figure who is representing the concept of liberty. There is some debate over who model was, the sculpter's mother, mistress or a socially-prominent widow. The color is due to the fact that copper weathers when exposed to the elements and a patina called verdigris forms on it. That is why you also see old public buildings with green roofs.

It isn't related to Baal or the Freemasons. The Statue of Liberty, the full title of which is "Liberty Enlightening the World," appears to have been based on a combination of Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian symbolism. Lady Liberty is dressed similarly to a pagan goddess, with the crown of Apollo (Greco-Roman sun god) on her head. She also carries a tablet, similar to the tablets of the Ten Commandments, inscribed with the date "July 4, MDCCLXXVI," the date on which the Declaration of Independence was signed (the year 1776 is written in Roman numerals). Lady Liberty's hair bears a resemblance to classical depictions of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, but this may be just a coincidence. @birdsflies: You are aware that two of these Statues were originally constructed, and one is in NYC while the other remains in France?

Frederic Auguste Bartholdi is the sculptor. Some say the face was modeled after Isabella Eugenie Boyer (wife of Isaac Singer) Others, Bartholdi's mother, Charlotte Bartholdi (1801-1891). He never denied or explained that resemblance. The skin of the statue of liberty is composed of copper and copper alloys. It was not originally green (circa 1886); it took 25 years to turn green (it would take much shorter today). Sulfuric and nitric acids from air pollution accelerate the oxidation of copper, these levels were much lesser then.

not to be rude, it's just that she was a slave, as u can see or get near the Statue Liberty, there's the unchain chains by her feet, the book says liberty, the clothing is a cloth rag, the torch is a symbol of light and power, and the crown is like a symbol of beign important. That statue originated in France to New York.

She represents the spirit of liberty. The green color if from oxidation of the copper from which she is built. Here's some excellent information: http://www.nps.gov/archive/stli/prod02.htm#Statue%20of
