How safe do you feel knowing that a tiny Smart has been proven to match a full-size S-class Mercedes for occupant safety in a head-on collision between the two?
I'm not sure which "green" car you are thinking of, but I'd much rather go off the road in a well built medium size than a crude SUV, that's for sure.
As for facsism, you may want to look into the meaning of the phrase before shooing off nonsense like this. There are shades of fasicsm, but when big corporations and government cooperate more intimately than the people and the government, you are well on your way.

There is no such thing as a fascist liberal. It makes no sense to say that. It's like saying pigs have wings and they fly underground. BTW, lots of people die in SUV crashes. I drive a small car and I drive defensively and safely. I'm 46 and I've never been in a car crash in my life. Instead of complaining about liberals and their wanting clean air to breathe, why don't you take up the issue with the auto industry and do something about it. Start a writing campaign and demand safer automobiles that get better gas mileage. Demand better gas mileage from SUV's. The technology is there. It's the auto industry (the big guys) that are too much in bed with the oil industry to change. In the mean time, Toyota is surpassing the U.S auto industry by leaps and bounds. The Prius is becoming one of the fastest selling car in the country and the world. Not all of us like paying $4.00 a gallon or even $3.00 a gallon for gas. So instead of complaining about liberals about this and blaming them, why don't you place blame where it belongs? On the Auto industry itself for not giving us technological choices that make sense. I thought country was about free enterprise and choice in the market. The way I see it is the oil industry has a monopoly on the people and so does the auto industry in terms of the choices in autos we have. There are many car makers that are independent that are making all electric cars, SUVs and trucks now and they are just as 'safe' as typical SUV. Google Phoenix motors, or TESLA motors. Be pro-active instead of attacking liberals for wanting a clean and green planet to live on in a healthy positive way. We're not the threat. We're trying to find solutions.

And here I thought freedom meant deciding what car I want to buy, or whether or not I even want to buy a car…but apparently freedom is driving a car I feel safe in? I guess that makes me a fascist.

We can land robotic landing surveyors on Mars. We can build that can get great mileage and be survivable in a crash at 200 m.p.h. I don't think I have to give up anything. The NTSA would never approve the vehicle you are talking about anyway, so your argument makes no sense.
