Seriously...makes you wonder. Who stands to benefit from that? And not just the US...I'm talking world wide. Seems what started between them and the middle east has spread like cancer into the rest of the world.

Why does the media keep propagating such things and just trying to spread fear and animosity too?

Makes you really wonder what's goign on in this world.

SOMEONE seems to be gaining from the paranoia it seems. I think a couple of you are onto something.

Al Gore is harmless...he's right about global warming however and he cares about the environment...not going to say anything bad about that. It's time to change people.

We have more people on this planet than it can support and just wait till we have double this in 50 years. The planet cannot sustain it.

The popular media continues to perpetuate this because it keeps their numbers up. The more terrible and shocking the story the better their ratings. It has little to do with truth or how directly these issues effect you or I personally.

The other issue is that they feel they have political influence. Ever since it first came to their minds in the mid 60s. That they have political influence, they have been pushing the hot buttons of the people ever since. And will continue to do so until peoples attitudes about this change.

i believe that there are very real threats out there, as well as some embellished threats that are used to manipulate and control the population. this is nothing new. Caesar did it, the Catholic Church did it, I'm sure if you took a careful look at this topic throughout history you would see a common thread. and that is there exists a threat and then those in power use it to their advantage but at the same time acting in a way that is better than the alternative which is to do nothing and be on the losing end of an attack by an aggressor.

the media does what it does because it is a business competing for ratings. the age old credo in journalism is "If it bleeds it leads." That means audiences will consume tragic news always and fear will keep them tuned in.

I certainly am not. The corporate and militarist elites and religious extremists are the ones who stand to gain from such paranoia. The media is merely the mouthpiece.

On a side note, the same hacks who complain about Al Gore spreading "eco-fear" are the same fools who will eat up anything that the fear-mongering ultraconservaties will spread about the terrorist boogeyman.

I wholeheartedly believe that President Bush has used the events of 9/11 to manipulate the American public. According to Bush, the threat of terrorism is always at our door step, our way of life is always in peril, and only he can protect us.

We now have, thanks to Mr. Bush, a "terror alert system" which tells how scared we should be on a day-to-day basis.

In fact, he's done such a good job in his manipulation, that we were led to believe that Iraq posed an imminent threat to our security. Most of us now know that Iraq posed no threat to our country, because no WMD's (Bush's reason for instigating this war) have been found.

I truly believe that this is part of the long-range plan for globalization. I don't live so much in fear of terrorists as I do my own government. They're scaring the hell out of me.

A scared public will do whatever the business interests tell them to.

Your government sold out decades ago.

A scared public will never have the courage to exercise its right, as stated in the preamble and the declaration of Independence,
to go to Washington, throw out the non-functioning government and install a new one.

The media is reporting what is happening in the world. They are not manipulating anyone, at least not the responsible media.

I see a lot of media blaming here. More propaganda. It is our government trying to rule us by fear. Don't buy into it.
