and an envelope i was told im supposed to put the black one and the american flag one together why cant we just put one on an envelope????? please some1 explain everything that changed with this stamp stuff.

Postage went up to $.41 in May for a 1 oz. domestic letter.

You don't have to - you can put 3 stamps on (add 1 cent) or buy the new 41 cent stamps that are good forever. The black stamps are 2 cents and they raised the postage and you didn't use up your 39 cent stamps before the rate went up.

The amount of stamps did not change. It is the amount of postage required for a letter. It used to be 39 cents now it is 41 Cents, so you are most likely putting on a 39 cent stamp along with a 2 cent stamp to equal 41. By the way they do sell 41 cent stamps.

Simply put, the rates went up from 39 cents to 41 cents (for a standard first-class letter). So you're putting the 2-cent stamp (black one) with the 39-cent stamp (American flag one) to bring the total up to 41.

The only reason you had to put 2 on your envelope was because the price of normal stamps just changed from $.39 to $.41. So, you had to have one $.39 and one $.02 to send it out.
You can avoid having to do this by just buying the new $.41 stamps which are now available wherever stamps are sold. If you still have $.39 stamps, just get a few $.02 ones so you don't waste your money.

The one is for 39 cents and the black one is for 2 cents...because stamps just went up to 41 cents in may. so unless you have the new stamp you have to put those two on it.
