You can run a free test at http://www.crucial.com and find out what kind of RAM (memory) your computer needs. It will automatically test your system and tell you what you need and have in the computer (each slot).

You can get cheap memory at http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.com

Start by going to a website such as www.crucial.com. They have tools that can help you determine EXACTLY what kind of RAM that you need. Then, as long as your computer is not more than 5 years old, the type of memory that it needs is usually sold in stores, so keep an eye out each week for sales ads for office supply stores and electronics stores, such as Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy, and Circuit City. They tend to have sales now and then where you can get the RAM a lot cheaper than you can online.

first you need to know what kind of RAM your computer needs, you can check the manufacturer's site or do that test at the site another answerer gave. best buy and circuit city are good places to buy if you need the RAM as soon as possible, or you can buy online, I'd suggest the manufacture's store because they have the RAM 100% compatible with your computer, and also it's best to have identical RAM parts to get the most performance.

Kingston Technology has the right memory for just about any PC. You can shop by manufacturer, speed, and size.

If you have the part number from your existing memory, you can find the right version for your system.

Ebay is where you will get it the cheapest. Just make sure the dealer is reputable and be patient. Don't get in a bidding war for something that there is plenty of.

newegg.com is pretty good. You can save by buying it OEM instead of retail (basically means you dont get the fancy packaging) and unless you live in CA no sales tax.
