It basically means that the person is appoximately 1.42 times as smart as the average person their age.

A person's IQ is a measure of how smart that person is compared to the average person their age.

The average IQ is 100. But due to errors it is considered 100 plus or minus 10, so a range of 90 to 110 is somtimes used.

If the average IQ is 100 and someones IQ is 142, then that person is about 1.42 times as smart as the average person their age.

It means the kid is pretty smart. IQ scores are adjusted so that 100 is the median score - half are above that, half are below. But the score is only useful if it's from a reliable test, given under controlled conditions, and interpreted by a trained person. That usually means a counselor or psychologist gives the test in a standardized setting - a classroom, their office, etc, and reviews the results. The online tests you can find just about anywhere might be accurate within 30 points. They can't be trusted for anything other than playing around with friends. You couldn't list that score and its source on a job or college application, for example, and expect it to be useful.

Very good. Generally, 100 is normal...about 130 is gifted and if you're over 150 you are a genius. So 142 would mean you're gifted or a borderline genius.(most tests have a % error though)

a proper IQ test is designed to be taken at age 12. only a 12 year old doing a proper IQ test and not something they downloaded off the net, can get accurate results on this test.
a score of 140 means genius,
your tests show an above average result, but you have to keep in mind that the test itself is not that accurate, you were not the right age when you took it, that also distorts the results, and if you took this test on line then no one can say how accurate it is

It means that person is very intelligent, I mean smart. You see 100 to 130 is normal, 130 to 150 is intelligent, and 150 and above means you're extremely intelligent, you're a genius if you get to 150.

not much if you received this score from an I.Q. test taken on line.

If you were administered an I.Q. test by someone trained on how to give it and interpret it, then you received a score in the "very superior" range.

But, let's be frank, in this world it is what you do - not what number you are - that defines who you are and what you are capable of doing.
