Wench's Innocence

sort of an oxymoron...huh!

Our pirate crew, THe Pirates of St. Joseph Bay, has a ship's name of Merry Wench. Can't have that one.

If you don't like any of the suggestions here make 1 up by use your sister's or mother's name. And some characteristic endearing you to them.

I think it's best you develop a new name not one from history.

Captain Samuel Bellamy in 1717 captured the slave ship WHYDAH laden with gold and sterling. Sailing back to New England, on April 26th, 1717 the pirate ship WHYDAH was sunk in a gale off the coast of Wellfleet, Cape Cod Massachusetts.

WHYDAH is a Portugeese word for African birds with long dark tails. It is also the name of a river in West Africa where the Portugeese ships used to pull in to onload cargoes of slaves.

The pirate ship WHYDAH was discovered off Cape Cod and artifacts, including the ship's bell, have been recovered (and cannon, and cutlasses, and treasure, and human bones, and clothing, etc.). The WHYDAH is a significant find since it is the first and only pirate ship excavated while still in the act of piracy.

Pirate ship names?: Queen Anne's Revenge, Azimuth, Lost Hope, Saucy Sally, Pretty Red, Mary Barton, Compass Rose, Human Bones, Black Bell, Pool Table Mable

If you google pirate ships you'll be referred to a "pirate ship name generator" It will give you lots of good ideas. I have some ideas of my own. "The Barbary Coast" named after one of the great scavenging grounds for pirates in the early 19th Century. "The Golden Hind" named for Sir Francis Drake's ship. "Kidd's Revenge" named for the NBA point guard who never gets to the finals. (Actually, of course, named for the famous pirate Captain Kidd.)

How about The White Whale in honor of Moby Dick, The White Shark in honor of Jaws, the Octopus in honor of the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, or the Walrus in honor of John Flint's ship from Treasure Island?
