Why do you say that the team are bad? Could it not just be that England are too good for them? England's record has been abysmal of late but they have definitely got themselves on track this time. I adore cricket in the style of Ian Botham, whack the ball as hard as you can and watch the opposition run around like headless chickens! It could be that we have hit on the right combination and with a bit of luck and a lot of skill England can stuff the Aussies!

Good question, I have a few ideas...

Point 1.

WI have four world class players:

Chanderpaul: arguably the player of the series, from either team. Kept his head when all around were losing theirs.

Bravo: what he may lack in skill he makes up for in heart.

Sarwan: sadly missing following his injury.

Edwards: Excellent player who would bowl all day for his team

Unfortunately it takes 11 players to make a team, the other 7 are honestly not much better than village cricketers.

Point 2:

Lara was pressurised into resigning from international cricket by the WI selectors in order that they could "move on" and rebuild. He is still the best batsman eligible to play for WI.

Point 3:

Why was Ganga, a player seriously out of nick, made captain? As Ganga is not an experienced captain, he had to lead by example, which he was incapable of doing at this time. He will develop.

Point 4:

It is a little unfair to compare this team with teams from the past. WI in the 70s and 80s were an exceptional team which would give the modern Australia team a run for its money, if not a thrashing. Young Caribbeans these days prefer to play soccer or basketball. From being the most popular game, cricket in WI is probably more of a "minority" sport these days. It is probably no coincidence that two of my four "world class" players above are of Asian descent.

As primarily an English cricket fan, but also a cricket fan in general, we need a strong WI team, as football needs a strong Brazil or (dare I say it) Germany (boo!).

Unfortunately, this has been brweing for a while, the West Indies domestic system is in decline, unlike most major test teams they have no "academy" or system for grooming future national side players and this has filtered through to a poor test team.

Things will get worse, County Cricket has been part of the West Indies "training" system for years, next year only one overseas player is allowed per county.

I fully agree with you that the present West Indies team is no where near the West Indies team of 1980 and perhaps this may be the weakest West Indies team in years..

why is everyone defending the Windies, are you answering questions without even watching the games? they haven't won a test series for over 7 years.

answering your question, yes i am surprised, i guess when i was young the windies were the force in Cricket with great players, Ambrose, Marshall, Hooper, Richards, Garner - so many great players

I think the game runs in cycles. I'm sure they'll be back. Their pride will be bruised and I think that, maybe Sir Viv will want to have his say on the administration front in order to shake things up a bit.

Why are you saying they are a bad team ???
Maybe, they are not just lucky this time around...

They have defeated good teams before...
but I can agree with you to a certain extent as W.Indies are quite bad in tests...
but they are quite good in ODIs.

Maybe because Lara has gone.....
