This is my first pregnancy, but I am kinda thinking that it won't come until after Christmas, so have invited my husbands family to ours for Christmas dinner, my mum will also be with us, she lives in New Zealand, but is coming over for the birth...Whats the opinion of me not going into labour until after christmas?
Its all so exciting though, i just can't wait for the whole occasion.

Your baby could be born before the 23rd as easily as after the 23rd. If you've just had the baby my money is on your not wanting to host a large holiday dinner -- at best, you will be sleep deprived and may also want to spend quiet bonding time with your newly expanded immediate family. If you have not yet had the baby you will not be up for much activity, so if you do go ahead with the plan be sure that even if you are technically hosting the dinner that people other than you are doing ALL the work. If you have the energy for helping out at the time, or are trying to move around to bring on the labor, by all means go for it, but you have to plan for the dinner as if you're not going to lift a finger, because you may not want to or it may just not be an option at that point! You also may b e *in* labor at that point, so what you feel like and how many people you want around you is also unknown.

The bottom line is it's a risk! And if it's what you want that's fine, but I truly believe that family members -- other than your mum, who will be with you in any event at that time -- should know that it is *possible* that the plans will have to be changed. And, what's more, you should feel free to change them as time (and your pregnancy!) progresses -- that is, don't feel pressured to have the family over for Christmas because you had thought you would want that...if in October you change your mind and think it's not what you'll want or not what you'll be up for, don't stick with your original plans because you feel obligated to. Take care of yourself first!

Whatever you do for Christmas and whenever your baby is born, congratulations and enjoy!

I guess a lot of it depends on whether your dr. is calculating your due date from the last day of your menstrual period or from when you conceived.
Where I live, they always calculate from the last day of your menstrual period since women ovulate at different times. And they give the rule that 2 weeks either way is normal. All 3 of my children therefore were "late" but, right on time according to conception.
And of course you can never predict if the little one decides to make an early arrival. I'd make sure that you have everything planned ahead of time in case of an emergency.
Have a back-up plan if you will not be able to cook Christmas dinner and have your hospital bag ready and packed.
Good luck with your pregnancy and the birth!

Oh my God, you are asking for trouble. My baby is due 3rd December and there is no way on the fac eof this earth that I would have family over for Christmas. Too much hard work at a time when you just don't need the additional stress.

My sister had her first baby on Christmas Eve and came out of hospital on Christmas day. She was like the walking dead and it was as much as she could do to eat her own Christmas dinner, never mind actually cook it.

So my advice for you is to give the family Christmas a miss, just for this year.

I think you might be biting off more then you can chew.... You may or may not have your baby by Christmas but either way you may really be too tired to prepare a Christmas dinner for your family.

You said your mother will be there. Is both she and your husband willing to prepare everything if your not up to it?

Nevermind I felt really good after having my son but I'm really not sure I would have been up for having a big dinner really close to my due date or right after I had him. Nevermind, I did have him 3 weeks early.

I'd say that for this year, your family needs to be cooking dinner for YOU. When I had my son, I was due on December 28th; by December 25th, I was as big as a house, and didn't exactly feel like cooking (not to mention I'd been ordered to stay in bed). I'd say having guests for the 25th is pushing things a little bit; perhaps it's good to make some alternate plans now, while it's still early?

You should plan an early Christmas Dinner, or let mom cook. I am pregnant with my first too, but from what I hear moving and cooking will not be highlights around due date time.

Have fun, I am excited for you!!

you have as good of a chance of having the baby early as you do late. Maybe order a x-mas dinner form a grocer or restaurant, so you don't get stuck trying to feed 20 people with a week old newborn in your arms!!!
