In fairness to all, I realize that the Q was too broad and that I should have set aside survival issues bec you already had enough knowledge to survive alone and I should have specified how long before you were rescued. I'll be asking that Q once I pick best A for this Q.

I would like to have Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger and Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner, because if you read them over and over, you will find something new in them with each reading.

The first would be my personal diary, so that I can write all about my poignant adventures and sufferings and, when I'm rescued, publish my very own bestselling autobiographical novel, which will one day be made into an oscar winning flick.
The second would be a book containing all the ships that will ever pass within sight of the island so that I can go home once I've had enough adventures.

How about... The Alexandrian Quartet, by Lawrence Durell... and probably Tao Te Ching by Chuang Tzu.
We are all in an island, some just want to get off or try to survive on it, some -few- continue living...

Rimbaud's Collected Poetry (to remind me that all we need to be as miserable as all of the rest of the people in the world is the mind, and that with our minds, we can "transcend" our surroundings into greater enlightenment)
Plato's Symposium (to remind me that the meaning of life is love an knowledge-- not modern conveniences)
