Bring on the disapproval since no one's heard of them, but there is a group called Franklin For Short that is out of Ventua, CA that puts on a great show. The songs are good, they play them great, they harmonize beautifully, and the singer Seth has this hilarious sarcastic thing going on. I've seen them probably around 10 times and it never gets old.
The Shins also put on a great show. A couple other notable acts would be Built To Spill, the Mars Volta, and Frank Black (the man still rocks), and Stephen Malkmus.

They are not together anymore but the best shows I have ever seen were when I saw OINGO BOINGO. The first time I saw them there was no opening act & Boingo played for 3 hours. Up until they retired they still rented themselves out to play personal parties. They retired as a band in 1996. The lead singer DANNY ELFMAN now composes music for movies. He did all of Tim Burton's films, Spiderman, he wrote the theme song to the Simpsons, Mission Impossible, & countless other movies.
One other show that I saw that I consider one of the best is when I saw U2 in Denver on the ZOO TV TOUR back in 1994.

wow I guess Im gonna seem outta play here saying this, but I absolutely loved see PHISH play or the grateful dead.
THOSE were some shows right there. good times, good times..... i understand though that there music isnt for everyone...
but as far as the kind of music described here i would go with 311, metallica, linkin park, or incubus ( i saw them 3 times in one week and met them all three times, it was awesome)
its all in what you choose to make of the concert.
oh and greenday are pretty good live too

The Damned or The Buzzcocks....bums like Fall out boy I save my old size D batteries to throw at them....one day I'll hit one of those tossers right in the head & they'll get real jobs instead of posing as punks or musicians for that matter!
