My favorites are steel blue and black bettas, but I really like most all the colors and patterns.
A good size for betta breeding tank is about 10 gallons. The fry will need at least that much space to start growing and the female will need space to hide from the male during and after the spawning process.

I love all colored Betta's. You will have to get a different tank for the Betta after the fry start free swimming. I use a 10 gallon breeding tank and then when they get a certain size I separate the bigger fry into a grow out tank that is 20 gallons. You will need 2 seperate tanks for the male and female and then the larger one for the fry.
And for whoever stated that females aren't sold in the U.S. is not up to date on this specie of fish. I have 2 female Betta's who are adults and I have no idea where that poster got that idea from. And they are also as beautiful as my male.
Edit to JasonBeba...yes Male Betta's can and will eat the babies. That is why most sites tell you to remove the male after the fry are free swimming..how about you check out these links and read up on them...

I like the blue and red bettas. I think they're really pretty. Well to answer your question, you can breed your betta's and its possible that you can breed them in the tank that you already have. BUT.... its probably not the best choice. You'd want to get a 10 gallon tank that way the babies will have more room to swim. Right now, my bettas just had babies and the daddy and the babies are in my 2 gallon tank and they're doing just fine. Once they're able to swim on their own, I'm going to switch tanks. Also, what that last person just said about the daddy eating the babies after they hatch isn't true. And he doesn't kill the female betta after he squeezes the eggs out of her. If you want to find out more about breeding your betta's just do a search on how to breed them. Here's one link I like to go to, to learn about it:

I don't know where Charly got her info from but the truth is you can breed bettas. All bettas are beautiful, the males are the bettas with the pretty fins, they females aren't that good looking, if you notice with male bettas you will see a lot of bubbles at the top of their tank they do that b/c they want to mate, but it goes a little deeper than that. If you want to breed it, you will need to put four females in the tank, he will call three of the four, he will impregnate the one he didn't kill, once she is pregnant he will squeeze the eggs from her and put them in the bubbles , he will kill her and wait for the eggs to hatch, when they do he will eat all the baby fish.

Love to keep all available colour of Betta.
Betta are like guppy, your imagination (for colour combination) is the limit.
Both Solid colour (one colour) and Marble have their attraction. The longer you keep betta, the more you would appreciate the beauty in Marble-not one piece will be the same!!
Enjoy!!

All are pretty colours but I want to tell you that you can not breed BETTA's. If you notice in the stores they are all alone in the bowls by themselves for a reason. They will kill to the death, plus only the males are sold in the United States.
