How exactly does it look dead? If you just bought it and put it in the ground here is what you can do to try and bring it back. Pull it back up and inspect the roots. Make sure it is not root bound by removing all the container soil from around the roots. cut off any brown or black roots. The roots should be a creamy white. Now, prepare the hole. Dig a hole 24"X24" and disgard the bottom portion of the soil and save the top soil. In the hole layer an inch or two of manure and then add peat and bone meal to the remaining loose soil. After you've mixed all the ingredients together put a layer of the soil on the manure. Create a mound in the bottom of the hold and set the rose on top and carefully spread the roots down the side of the mound. Finally fill in the hole with the rest of the soil and water well. You will have to water everyday for the next two weeks and then you should be able to cut back the watering to once a week unless it is extremely hot. Your roses will let you know if they are thirsty by drooping a little. Also, remember to water your rose early in the morning and at the base because they do not like to get wet. Afternoon sun will dry them if they do. I hope this helps. I have brought some of the most root bound and unhappy plants back this way. Good luck

First, there is no need to water it so much. As long as the roots are nicely set in moist soil (not water-logged) they should be fine. Did you prune it back after planting? If not, cut it back to a bud on each stem about 6 inches or so from the soil level and then leave it for a few weeks. With the warm weather you should see the buds becoming fatter as the palnt beginss to recover from the trauma of the planting.

You can take your fingernail and scrape the bark - if there is no "green", living tissue - brown and crunchy even under the bark - it's dead.

Stop watering it every day. You may be drowning it!

Go out to the drip line, and poked down an inch or two. If the soil has moisture down there, do NOT water it!
