It is not yet proven, but certainly a logical extension to assume that there would be life outside our little planet.

Forty years ago, when I was in grade school, no planets outside the solar system had been found. There was talk in science class about the possibility of planets circling a star near Alpha Centauri, but that was as far as scientists had been able to go at that time.

Since then, several planets have been confirmed by scientists working from different places, which means that they exist. When this happens with extraterrestrial living beings, we will be able to celebrate that knowledge as well.

This is much different than the lack of proof for the God of Abraham. He has been all but completely disproven, as nothing other than wishful thinking known as 'belief' keeps his bid for existence propped up.

DC,

First of all, forget all this BS that people are saying about the info in the Bible. The Bible is a book of lies. It's just a fairy tale that people got way too passionate about.

Secondly, your question cannot be answered. No one on Earth can answer this with a definite response. All you can do is use the evidence and statistics to make an educated decision on what to believe. Personally, I believe strongly that extraterrestrials do exist and they have been visiting Earth for a long time. Here are some things you should consider researching:

- The Drake Equation - this equation was devised to calculate the likelyhood that other intelligent life exists in the universe. To save you some time, I'll tell you that the equation results in a 99.99% chance that other intelligent life exists out there.

- The Disclosure Project - this is a project formed to in the late 90's to convince congress to disclose all confidential information about extraterrestrial life to the public. If you watch the video of the first congressional hearing, you will see 20 government officials and U.S. Airforce pilots confess to their ties with the U.S. UFO cover-up.

- The Day After Roswell by Col. Phillip J. Corso - before this retired colonel from the U.S. military passed away, he managed to release this book to the public that explains the recovered artifacts he had to examine from the famous Roswell crash. You should also do other research into the Roswell incident... it was a big turning point in the history of American UFO research.

Aside from those three things, you should also consider the fact that in the last 107 years, the people of Earth have seen incredible technological advancements. We've practically gone from horse and buggy to flying to the moon and traveling across the country in a matter of hours. If an extraterrestrial life form on a distant planet has had thousands of years to advance technologically, as opposed to Earth's more limited time frame, then the idea of traveling incredible distances (like intergalactically) doesn't seem so far-fetched.

Let's first settle the belief that the Bible is the word of God. It is not. As any other religious writing, it has been written by humans who wanted - among other things - to control their peers. What better argument than to say that God told you so. So, let's stick what we can observe directly or deduce logically. Facts, not fiction, please.

This being said. The earth has benefited from extraordinary circumstances in order for life to start and evolve to the human form. Which is probably the source of that conceit that is mentioned in couple answers above.

Also as mentioned above, the statistical likelihood is in favor of some sort of living organism having developed outside our planet... and by the nature of things that life has most likely evolved into a diversity of living organism. Whether it has reached or surpassed the level encountered on earth again is a matter of speculation and statistical likelihood. One thing is almost certain is that the physical form of life on another planet will be extremely different that on earth, could even be non-carbon-based, as mentioned earlier. But the likelihood of finding human looking life outside of earth is extremely slim.

Your premise is risky. The *diversity* of life on this planet is not a good argument for the *abundance* of life elsewhere. The premise simply is that life exists here. A better way to argue the probable abundance of ET life would be to find *any* sign of life elsewhere. IOW, the existence of life on 2 different worlds, no matter how rare or simple one of them may be, is far more significant than the existence of 10 million species of life on one world.
There aren't an infinite number of galaxies or stars, but there are a lot. I think life might exist elsewhere, but it hasn't been shown. Personally, I think those who say there probably isn't any life elsewhere would have to be the ones to support their view. What is it about the earth that could not occur somewhere else?
But some go so far as to state unequivocally that there *is* life elsewhere. Well, there is some doubt. That statement hasn't been proven, either.

I tend to agree that there other intelligent living beings on other planets in other galaxies. As you mentioned, what are the odds that of all the billions of other planets, Earth is the only one to host intelligent life? Given those odds, it's nearly impossible that lifeforms don't exist elsewhere. I think it is the height of arrogance when humans consider Earth to be the only life-sustaining planet.

I think it would be extremely conceited of us as human beings (and we all know how conceited human beings are) to think that we are the only life in the universe. It's so vast, and there are so many other worlds out there: if we can manage to come into being on this little rock, odds are good it has happened other places, too. I also think it's very likely that we would not recognize other life forms if we encoutered them - not right away, anyway. Another human conceit is that it has to be like us in order to be alive. I don't think life necessarily has to be carbon-based to be life.

Don't let those crazy christians fool you. You make sense. It is was it is. There's BILLIONS of galaxies with billions of stars in each with dozens of earth-like spheres around each sun....
Duh....there's got to be galactic federations and so forth.
The rule's probably that a civilisation has to "get out there" on its own, before initial contact.
We are a very, very primitive civilisation. Heck, 500 yrs ago we battled on horseback with swords and armor.....

Of course. There has to be. In terms of God, I dont He would create all that space for nothing. I believe humans will come into contact with alien life in the future. Its bound to happen give advances in technology.
