We had someone come in a plant seed and put in straw about 3 weeks ago. There are still quite a few bare spots..Although the parts that have grown in, have come in pretty thick. I can't get ahold of the guy that planted the seed now to find out what we should do next.
Oh yeah, I live in Ohio and have been watering the grass about every other day.

Get some more seed and re-do the bare spots. The straw is there to help hold in moisture and to keep birds from eating the seed. Unless it is really thick you dont have to do anything with it.

Leave the straw, it will decompose and feed your new grass. If you try removing it, you're likely to rip up the grass seedlings.

You don't remove the hay. When the grass gets mature (and long enough) mow it! The hay will get chopped up or will naturally decompose all on its own.
