It goes on the "Transom" (Back) where the hull rides across the water, the "Transducer" makes contact with the water, don't mount it where there will be turbulance (like behind a "Chine"), use the bottom right hand corner. It must be mounted on the boat, when the boat is out of the water, there is a picture in the instructions. Instead of drilling holes in your boat, just use a 3"X3" piece of wood or "Starboard", and "5200 marine adhesive". Glue that to the hull, then drill into that to mount the transducer. The "Transducer" wire connects to the unit. POWER CORD: Run the "POS" +wire to the POS+ side of the fuse panel, or battery, and the NEG - wire to the NEG- side of the fuse panel or battery. If you connect the POS+ wire from the F/F power cord to the battery, use an "In-line" fuse on the wire for circuit protection, you could get away with doing the work by using "Wire Crimps" but, the proper marine connection, is to "Solder" the connections, instead of "Crimping" them. Solder may corrode on the outside but, will retain it's conductivity on the inside.

I installed one on my boat, it's not that hard. Yes, there is some drilling involved, how else would you mount things? There is only 1 hole you have to drill through the hull, and it's back at the transom, and you drill it above the water level, run the transponder cable through it, then seal the hole with silicone caulk. You also have to drill a couple of small holes at the rear of the boat, at the bottom of the hull, to mount the transponder.

Bottom Line's web site doesn't have good info so you'll need to check the installation instructions to see if you can mount the transducer in the hull (no drilling ;) ) with epoxy as another person suggested. I mounted my Piranha FF that way with no problems. But, you will need to drill small holes to mount the display. Just be sure to drill the right size hole so that you don't crack the fiberglass.

Check with your dealer about the possibility of a "thru hull" transponder that you epoxy to the inside of the bottom.
