Dave Stieb, 1988.

24-Sept, Toronto at Cleveland: Stieb no-hits the Indians for eight innings (walks to Allanson in the 3rd and Franco in the 4th, and Medina HBP in the 8th). In the ninth: Allanson struck out, Upshaw grounded out, and then leadoff hitter Julio Franco (yep, the guy with the Mets today) singled. Clark filed out to end the game, Toronto 1 - Cleveland 0. A few days later, 30-Sept, Baltimore at Toronto: Stieb again no-hits the other team for eight innings (Orsulak HBP in the 4th, walk to Stanicek in the 7th). In the ninth: Anderson grounded out, Stone grounded out, and Traber singled. Orsulak then grounded out to end the game, Toronto 4 - Baltimore 0.

Denied twice, consecutively, with two outs in the ninth. And the season was over for Stieb.

It wasn't Stieb's last dance with a no-hitter. On 04-August-1989, Yankees visiting, Stieb was PERFECT for 8 innings. The ninth: Morris struck out, Phelps struck out. I remember watching the end of this game. I wanted the perfecto. RIZZUTO announcing wanted the perfecto. Anddddd... Kelly doubled to left. Perfect game, no-hitter gone. Sax singled, Kelly scored -- shutout gone. Polonia grounded into a FC, Sax forced at second, Jays 2 - Yankees 1. Oh, man... to be that close.

Stieb finally got his zero in the hits column on 02-Sept-1990, again in Cleveland, Jays 3 - Indians 0. Four walks, but no hits. Box: http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1990/B09020CLE1990.htm
