My mother has two plants in her garden and she isn't sure if they are weeds (where she would be getting rid of them) or actual plants. We are just curious to know what these are:
Plant 1:

This is the first tine we've seen it, so I wouldn't know if it flowers or whatnot. Although a few people have said it looks like a plant which would produce melons, which is quite exciting. :-) But it hasn't flowered or anything just yet, so I can't give any more photos to help. It's just a big, leafy plant at the moment!

1. Polygonium virginianum 'Painters Pallet' ,aka Lady's Thumb, prettier darker color and less rank and less spreading than 'knotweed' 2. Alcea rosea (probably a double flower type), aka Hollyhock. Think people, she would have known if she planted a vine crop and I doubt it volunteered next to a foundation. Being biennial it was probably unnoticed last year. RScott

Plant one looks like a vinca which is usually used as a ground cover. I have vinca all over my yard. They tend to stay in the shade. However, when the weather is cool or moist they like to go anywhere they want. They are very invasive which in some minds make them a weed. I have a love hate relationship with mine. Mine will take over my garden beds several times throughout the growing season which means I am always pulling them out. Fortunately, they have shallow roots and come out easily. The good part is they are pretty when they bloom, they fill in shady areas and they tend to keep other more bothersome weeds from growing. The second plant is also not a weed. It looks like a squash or melon. You say the second comes back every year? Can you tell us any thing else about it? Does it fruit or flower?
Here is a site about the japanese knot weed. #1 is not a japanese knot weed.
It's not vinca either. Guess it's just a weed

The first thing to remember is that there is no such thing as a 'weed'. It is merely a plant growing in the wrong place. The first of these plants looks like Wall Valerian and will spread but easy to dig out if you don't like it. The second plant is more difficult without seeing the flowers. At first I thought that it was nasturtium but I now think not. I don't think that either is particularly invasive and if your mother likes the plants leave them. If not, take them out or plant them elsewhere.

Plant 1 is a type of wildflower. Unfortunately I can't remember the name, but my wife is growing it on purpose in her wildflower garden so theoretically it isn't a weed.
Plant 2 looks like something from the squash family to me, but possibly could also could be some sort of Hollyhock.

that is not undesirable. because of the fact it is so little, i could pull them by utilizing hand. Do it for the duration of or after a huge rain, the roots will come out easier. it is your maximum inexpensive and maximum everlasting restoration. Roundup could artwork too, yet you will could wait. Are you going to overplant with grass? the reason your Weed B long gone did not artwork is because of the fact which you used it on the incorrect time. maximum persons do. it rather works ultimate as a preemergent. (whilst the 1st inch of soil is fifty 5 tiers or greater for 5 days in a row)

I weed is a plant that is not needed. Grass growing on my lawn is not a weed. Grass growing in my flower bed is a weed. I've found both plants in my backyard. i don't think they are weeds.
