It is important to note that a criminal act can also be a tort. For example, battery is a crime that can result in criminal penalties. However, a victim can also sue someone for battery in civil court and try to recover money damages. OJ Simpson is an example. He was prosecuted for murder and sued for the tort of wrongful death.

A tort is an injury of some kind done to someone that doesn't violate a law. Its a civil matter as opposed to a criminal matter. It doesn't have to be a physical injury. If you do harm to someones property, reputation, their body or health, and so on then if there is no law that was broken you may have committed a tort on them.
Torts are the basis for many lawsuits.

A tort is a wrongful act, for which the law supplies a civil remedy, such as damages.

For example, careless driving that causes property damage or bodily injury. Trespass. Stealing customer lists from your employer.

There are lots and lots of torts. It's one of the principal subject studied by first year law students. You can get some insight at the library by perusing the standard work, "Torts" by Professor Prosser.

Anyone who does not know what Prosser on Torts is, is not a lawyer educated in the USA. You just don't survive the first year of law school without at least glancing at that book.

The answers you got here assume you spelled it right.

If you were wondering about dessert for dinner, that's spelled torte.

In either case, do you not know how to use a dictionary?
