America cannot be weakened by such a small act, can it?

If it can, don't our problems run deeper than flag-burning?

Nobody ever died for a flag...they died for freedom...and freedom means freedom of expression. A flag is just a symbol....and flag burning makes a great wedge issue for conservatives and helps their supporters get out their checkbook...

with all the real problems this country has it's really sad that we spend time on this issue.

What the flag represents is more important than the fabric itself. By burning the symbol of the United States of America is like saying you don't like the US or disapprove of its leaders. People who burn the flag in protest do so for attention. Those that show their contempt for such people play into their hands. Ignore them and they won't do it.

I don't like it when I see our flag burned but I remember two things. First they have the right to do that no matter how disgusting it is. Secondly, although I disapprove I don't let them know it because I don't want to give them the satisfaction of getting to me.

I support the right to burn the flag. In my opinion:
I love that flag. It means that I live in the freest nation in the world. It just seems so disrespectful to those who fought in the honor of that flag. It's legal to do so, even constitutional.....
but if some terrorist were to burn it, on or off our soil then it is a reason to whoop some a**. If it was done to only show disrespect then that's only a sign of disrespect (unfortunately).

Our country is not weakened by the mere burning of a flag. It's the symbolism behind it that weakens a person's resolve. For what the flag stands for, it should NEVER be burned maliciously.

Burning of the flag symbolizes disrespect for the country and the president. The flag is considered a sacred symbol of our love and devotion to our country. Patriotism.

I wouldn't burn a flag, but I'd like to light a fire under Bush.

I understand that this should not be threatening to us. It is more than a flag to some people. SO much more. I believe that burning our flag only makes us stronger. If some stupid Iraqi burns our flag in front of a group of our military, those soldiers should be more motivated to kick their asses, and not stop until they are wailing for mercy.

It demonstrates a lack of respect for the country for which the flag represents. Seeing American's burning their own flag is disgusting and I believe that those people do not deserve anything that our country has to offer!

Because of the hateful message it conveys. Not altogether different from burning a cross, which people are also "touchy about."

One could also ask why some on the left are upset about being called unpatriotic. It's only words.

Because they love America, and people don't like it when things they love are disrespected. I don't get particularly upset about it, but I still think it should be illegal. If you dislike America enough to burn the flag, you ought to leave the country and do it somewhere else.

If you feel the urge to burn a flag then you don't really want to live here in the best country in the world. We bid you farewell on your journey to find a country your more happy with.
