Nice looking severum! I wouldn't expect the red patterns to begin to show until he hits 4-5". It can develop sooner on some fish, or actually a bit later as well. Both genders get the red patterns, but usually males have more red markings than females.

It sounds like you are giving a well balanced healthy diet and I wouldn't change that to try to push the red any sooner. Once it does come in, you can add some color enhancing pellets to help brighten it a bit, but honestly genetics and over health of the fish is more important to the color you'll have once it's grown.

Severums tend to try this lots. they are very services to their fins getting broken, and that i frequently do no longer discover an glaring reason for it. i've got finished some trial and mistake with splitting severums into distinctive tanks, and that i might say ninety 5% of the time, it is by way of different fish, which contains different severums, tearing on the fins. you may could desire to separate those fish. perhaps get a seventy 5 gallon, and upload a medium-sized dither fish, like Buenos Aires tetras or extensive danios to help diffuse aggression. I additionally discover that medium-sized pike cichlids are frequently stable at removing aggressive circumstances.
