...songs by Edith Piai - anyone heard of her? There is a movie on her - La En Vie Rose currently. Some of her greatest hits were written by herself. Her life story from a blurb on the movie - " From the slums of Paris to the limelight of New York, Edith Piaf’s life was a battle to sing and survive, live and love. Raised in poverty, Edith’s magical voice and her passionate romances and friendships with the greatest names of the period - Yves Montand, Jean Cocteau, Charles Aznavour, Marlene Dietrich, Marcel Cerdan and others - made her a star all around the world. But in her audacious attempt to tame her tragic destiny, the Little Sparrow - her nickname - flew so high she could not fail to burn her wings."
You can listen to some snippets of her song at this link -

Songs and music stay with us, don't they? They are so evocative - a time of one's life gone by, a peephole into one's memories come alive again......................

Well, I was born in early 46 and my parents loved the radio. I especially was impressed by music in the early 50's when it shifted out of the big-band era to more individual artists like Patty Page, Doris Day, Teresa Brewer, Jo Stafford and Les Paul/Mary Ford. Piaf was great! "Milord" (not sure of the spelling) was excellent. Though the big-band era was a few years before my time, I groove on it. Spent over 40 years as a DJ/Producer in broadcasting including over 4 years in Minneapolis/St. Paul. In that time, I worked with everything from Classical to Country and yes even 3 years doing a morning show that featured a lot of 40s thru early 60s music. Didn't get really heavy into early rock music from the late 50s but liked material by Dion, Bobby Darin, Everly Brothers, Tokens, The Browns and The Fleetwoods. Favorite era was 1959-1968, especially up to 1966. Gene Pitney, Bobby Vee, Brenda Lee, Drifters, Ben E. King ("Spanish Harlem"...written in part by Phil Spector..."Stand By Me"...one of my absolute faves) and of course the Beatles though my all-time fave group was the Moody Blues. Now, I get into a little of everything but Rap. Can't stand it. Haven't been a DJ for over 6 years but I have operated a recording studio since 1966 so I'm still active in the music business. I have an extensive music collection and put well over 300 of the best tunes from about 1950 thru 1971 on a series of CDs I call "Boomer's Gold". Right now I'm working on the last 2-album set called "Flowers and Grass" with the best of 1965-1967...the "Hippy" culture. And yeah, Yippy, Yippy, Yippy, I am an aging Hippy, but only in spirit because I never got into the drug scene though I have been known to do herb superb from time to time! Beats the heck out of rotting your body on meth, coke or H. Sheesh, those are true maroons. Also did acid three or four times in the early 70s. Very interesting, but after my final trip which lasted 3 days, decided not to go there anymore. Still like the music though because I was at the Monterey Pop Fest in '67, and you talk about the music being a window to the past. Even to this day when I hear some of the songs by Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Mamas And Papas or the Association, I'm right there back in California on a picture perfect day with the music, the insense and the "gentle people with flowers in their hair" (Scott McKensey..."SanFrancisco" another fab tune).

I saw a documentary on Edith Piaf. I thought her life was sad.
I like all kinds of music. I was a teen during the British Invasion so I like pop/rock. But I also like some of my mom's jazz records. I found CDs that showcased music of the 20s. 30s and 40s, so I learned to like some of those as well. I really like My Blue Heaven (Gene Austin) and If I Had A Talking Picture of You (Jimmy Hamp).
I like country, classical, and Christian music. I like Carmen and the Gaithers Homecoming series. Gee I guess I just like music!!

Well, since I was reared by a minister, my early years were limited to religious music. I am still a lover of the old gospel songs and I love the new contemporary songs such as, I Can Only Imagine.
As a young adult, on my own, I loved Carly Simon! I loved her voice and lyrics!! My hubby listened to all the groups such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and so on. My all time favorite rock band were the Eagles! Every song they did, I loved!!
When my children became teenagers, they listened to metallica and such. I was never too much into them but, I did learn to appreciate the music...not all the lyrics though!
Now, I have my grandson who plays the drums and guitar! He's my fave now! But, he likes alot of hard rock groups such as System of a Down. Unbelieveably, they do have some songs that I just love as well. LOL!!
So, as you see, I love various kinds of music and for various reasons!

This past Sunday, CBS's show, "Sunday Morning" did a segment about Edith. It showed a lot of clips of her and of the public outpouring over her death (regarding the funeral). It was an interesting part of the CBS show, and I am attaching a link about the show:
