I don't think of anything in particular. It is just a name. I suppose if I had to guess what race a Shaniqua was I would guess black. That comes to mind because it is rare to find a white person with a unique name. However it is coming more common with this generation. I met a little white boy named Zavion recently which was surprising because my son's name is Ceiveon ( deriving from the tap dancer Savion Glover).
And I have heard of a few people of other races with unconventional names. I knew a white girl when I was 14 whose name was Lacrisha and people assumed when reading her name that she was Black. I had a white classmate last semester named Kiesha and the Professor gave me her paper a few times. My name is Zakiya and I have been told before that my name was ghetto, but I didn't hesitate to inform them that my name is Hebrew for pure and Arabic for intelligent, and my mother named me Zakiya for a reason. I'm glad I'm not a Sally or Jill. When someone mentions my name, people know exactly who they are talking about, no last name required.

Honestly first thing I think about when I hear that name is the name of the payroll clerk at work. Because that's her name.
If you want to know yes shes' African American. However I should point out she's working on her college degree and this is her summer job.
I didn't grow up in the United States so, we don't have the same issues with race or names like in the US.

Ghetto and black. 1st off, I am not racist, I AM NOT RACIST, I am simply telling you the truth, it does because it reminds me of that whole over sized clothes rap gangsta scene which is majority black and the ghetto is deep in its whole scene. I am sorry if I offended you, but I am telling you the truth, and it's better than lying.
Edit- It also gives me a little diva to my mind because people in the whole gangsta thing who are black sometimes are divas when in fighting. I see them on the Jerry Springer show. Well...diva may be the wrong word, I mean diva as tough outspoken people that you do not want to mess with.

What comes to mind is a beautiful woman of color. Longer hair, possibly in braids, very shapely, but not too much booty. Luscious lips, full ..... And very fun and intellegent.
