Even today if u smell it, u can still smell the burnt smell. Is there anything i can to to return it and maybe get another one orstore credit somewhere? if so where?

caz i know how if ur ipod is broken u can sometimes bring it back to the Apple stores and they'll give u another one.

Honestly, you probably will not be able to return it, being you/brother fried it.

If it was a manufacture defect, then yes, and if you have your receipt. Some places will replace if it is not too old. They usually can tell when that brand was sold, not requiring a receipt.

Do you still have the receipt? If you don't, you probably can't return it. Also, check the policy of the manufacturer. Most will only replace mp3 players up to 1 year, unless you buy a care plan.

Go back to the Brand store that makes it or contact the manufacturer. E.G. Apple for Ipod.
