This phrase is not grammatically correct.

ACADEMIAN is a NOUN meaning a member of an academy or other institution of higher learning.

PRETENTIOUSLY is an ADVERB used to modify verbs, adjectives or other adverbs - but, not nouns. It means to consider yourself and treat others as though you are superior to them when you do not have any real basis for thinking and doing so.

One way to correct this phrase you would be to change PRETENTIOUSLY from the adverb form to PRETENTIOUS which is the adjective form - PRETENTIOUS ACADEMIAN

This corrected phrase would be someone associated with an institution of higher learning who treats others as inferiors simply because of his/her association with an educational institution.

Basically it means trying to show off how much you know by using big words and convoluted sentences, which end up showing how little you know and making you sound like a fool. Not you personally, just the person acting in such a fashion.
