It's really behaving disrespectfully, not disrespecting someone.
Intentional bad manners, like interrupting a speaker, walking away in midsentence, or just saying "You're wrong," are examples of behaving disrespectfuly using words. Dressing inappropriately for an important occasion, arriving late for a date, or expecting a friend to pick up the tab, are also disrepectful.

"Disrespect" is a noun, rather than a verb. It is not grammatically correct to say, "Someone disrespected me."

In addition, there is an adjective, "disrespectfully," that can be used to construct expressions that describe disrespect.

The correct expression is one that uses the word as a noun or adjective; for example, "Someone showed me disrespect;" or "Someone acted disrespectfully toward me."

Acts of disrespect might include ignoring a person who was trying to speak, intentionally blocking someone's way or inconveniencing someone, or failing to respect an official's authority or social position.

Look up social skills on the Internet or get a book on it. Like Miss Manners book.

This is important, and I'm glad you realize you are not sure.

By the way, it's show disrespect to someone, not disrespect someone.

aviophage gave an excellent answer. One of my pet peeves is people using disrespect as a verb.

My boyfriend always tells me that when I watch t.v. on the phone with him, it's disrespectful. He also won't let me listen to music on the phone with him...Apparently I'm a very disrespectful person. If you wanna IM me and see what i'm like, go for it.

When you walk away from a conversation while the other person is still talking. Or you can disrespect people by calling them inappropriate names and...

Hey... don't walk away... im still talking to you.
