They give African Americans a bad name and make it seem like black people enjoy pimping, being gansta's and living in jail. Its sad because BET represents African American culture and they do t hese things for the sake of money. They reinfornce many black sterotrypes that African Americans have been fighting to put aside for so long.

Pretty much. BET has been horrible for the past 20 years, ever since they were bought out by Viacomm. People blame BET for promoting negative black stereotypes, but most people don't realize that BET lost all of their quality programming when they stopped being black-owned. BET's time is up and they need to just go away.

Alright... So you can say that BET makes African Americans look like fools and I do agree to an extent... You may or may not know this but the company that owns and makes the decisions concerning what aires on BET, the same company that owns MTV (and all of its networks), Comedy Central, CMT (country music), Gametrailers.com, IFilm, Neopets, Nickelodeon, Nick@Nite, Noggin, TheN. SpikeTV, TVland, VH!, Paramount, Dreamworks... so on and so forth.... If you take a look at all the projects and show released by this one media conglomerate (there are plenty more like it i.e. Walt Disney Company) You will see how many negative images of African Americans are put out there... A lot of the programs out there the stereotype and glorify the negative images that go on in some impovrished black communities are controlled by this community... If you check out a photo of the owner of the company, Sumner Redstone, you will see who is really in control... It is really sad to know that no matter how much we think we have for ourselves, no matter how much we call our own, is all under the approval of the man... But honestly check out the links and do your own research and investigating... People need to really know the truth and be aware of the institutions in place that degrade and oppress groups of people from progressing (and not just blacks, i am talking all races... minorities and social classes)

Yes they do, its ashamed really. I grew up in a small Texas town and even though in school you have to be PC and teach kids that its OK to have different colored skin, the only real source I had for what black people are like came from MTV and BET and things of that nature. I have to admit it makes me moderately racist. I'm not the kind of person who would ever use a racial slur or commit a hate crime or anything like that. But I am the kind of person who thinks that people shouldn't idolize crime and ignorance. I now live in a much larger city with a MUCH more diverse culture and know that everyone is an individual and that profiling is never OK. Its to bad BET and MTV make it so easy to do though.

Yes, but the sad thing about it is that alot of African Americans are running around acting this way themselves. Alot of them enjoy this life (pimping gangsta lifestyle). Look around, don't you see it in your neighborhood? The rappers are the ones who are bad influences, the way they dress, their lyrics, the way they make women look.

I don't see much fighting to put it aside when every where you look people are imitating this way of life and they enjoy it.
They need to take the videos off the air and find something more positive.
I am a African Amer. and also Indian and Hispanic descent and I think we make our own people look bad not BET.

Prayer is the best solution for all of it.

This is not true at all, well yes they do have the typical sterotypes, but just last night i was watching a documentary about african american people, and the sterotypes about them, the show was proving certian sterotypes wrong with actual statistics ..like more black men are in jail then school..and etc..

I agree with you. Unfortunately, the black youth that don't have good and strong role models are looking at BET and emulating the antics.
Its sad and I wish the leaders of the black community would stand up and say something against it as Bill Cosby has tried to do.

I am black and I am not a BET supporter. Ever since those white people bought it out it's gone down hill! Those white people know exactly what they are doing.

I agree with your statement. I found some Spanish TV station that's local. I'm Hispanic and I was quite offended about how many stereotypes the TV station had about Hispanics.

I really doubt these companies who own TV stations really care about how minorities are portrayed. So they continue with stereotypes because it means big business.
