Fly into Phoenix or Las Vegas, get a car, and spend 2 weeks cruising the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Monument Valley, etc... amazing scenery.

Or, Try flying to Atlanta and get a car and explore. Atlanta has a short but ram-packed history (Gone with the wind?). Many of the old plantation houses and homes were burnt in the Atlanta area, as General Sherman marched to the coast... but he spared a town called Charleston because of its beauty. This town, depite several major hurricane hits, is simply stunning, with a rich history based in the slave trade, civil war and the civil rights movements. You can see slave markets and slave homes to the Coca-Cola museum. Also, theres a great theme park in Atlanta called Six Flags over Georgia.

Honestly, there are so many great places. Remmber there are 50 odd states. The average size would be maybe 4x size of the UK. Its a humungous country with mountains, glaciers, deserts, cities and beaches. What ever you want, you will find.

Also, 2$ to the £!!!!!!!

San Diego is one of the best vacation spots because the weather is fantastic, the scenery beautiful, and there are so many fun things to do. You can enjoy wine tasting, beach activities, kayaking, hiking, biking, surfing, fishing, biking as well as visit attractions such as the zoo, Wild Animal Park, Lego Land, and Sea World.

It all depends on the weather you like and what you like to do. I really dislike intense heat, so Vegas is out for me. I like the mountains and the beaches, so the Pacific Coast from Santa Barbara to Seattle is my choice. If you go south, San Diego is a great city with good weather, great beaches and a lot to do.

On the east coast, you're on your own. I've never been there.
