Someone told me I have to "bridge" the router. Help!

I know. I know. DSL is slower. I'm going to give it a try because Charter is down about 20% of the time where I live. Apparently I live in an area where people maniacally drive into poles every other day. I'm upgrading the DSL speed to 3 mg. Will that help?

When you switch it will work. You might have to reset your router because of the settings it had with your cable. Also DSL can be slower than cable so switching isn't such a good idea. To reset your router there is a little button on the back or bottom. Just hold that in till the lights flash.

It will work but not for internet

You have to set up the router in the control panel for you dsl isp account and password
With cable you basically just plug the router in

The installer should either give you a piece of paper with that info on . They may well setup your router ( either that you may well go back to cable)

it is called a poppe setup i believe

Instructions in your router manual or your router may of come with a set up disc or have a wizard built in

It amazes me the lack of information or misimformation these know it alls have

Yes you have to set the new DSL modem to bridge mode from PPPOE and have the login information stored in the router instead.

If you have an external modem then no worries. Just power off the wireless router, install the new modem and power up the router. It will pick up the new information and should work fine.
